Spam Retaliation

The sister or brother site to this forum…depending on your gender preference, offers a great way to retaliate the infamous Spam Bot. I took the snippet and changed just a bit in an effort to hide it from site visitors since it provided nothing for my customers and was aimed at botching Spam Bot efforts. The original code that would get copied in the body of your page is as follows:

<a href="http://www.auditmypc.com/freescan/antispam.html" target="_blank">
Anti Spam</a>

Since you don’t need your visitors to see the link I took it one step further and the following accomplishes this:

<div style="display: none;">
<a href="http://www.auditmypc.com/freescan/antispam.html" target="_blank">
Anti Spam</a>
</div>

I inserted this in the beginning of my body just after the logo and it didn’t foul up the layout at all and it will be the first link that the pesky bot finds.

    Excellent information, thank you!

    For those that are not familiar with antispam (spam trap), it is a way to trick the programs that harvest email address into collecting thousands of worthless email addresses.

    Spammers make money by collecting email addresses and then selling their collection. By feeding them worthless email addresses, their collection becomes worthless and chances are they will have to dispose of their database.

    The code provided by Dirkl will hide it from human eyes, but the spam bots will still follow the link!
