Sorry I’m clueless!

Hi all, i have just used the sitemap generator and found it to be quite painless !
I was expecting a lot more confusion after reading the stuff on google and other websites regarding sitemaps.
Anyway, it all went very well until I submitted it to Google as I have been given an Unsupported file format error message

I thought it was too easy!

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark

Welcome to the forum and it really is that simple, you just selected the wrong type of sitemap.

Click on AMPC and send me the url of your sitemap – I’ll bet you didn’t select the XML Sitemap option when exporting your sitemap; this has always been the case in situations like this

Don’t tell anyone – but I’m clueless as well

    Best regards,

    Jim.

    Hello Mark,

I took a look at your sitemap and see the problem. This sitemap was not created with my software or it would have stopped sitemap generation after the first url.

You have a domain name that forwards to another domain name (frames).

Google won’t allow that in their sitemap. You can’t have xyz.com and zyx.com in the same sitemap. So you need to visit your website, right click on the center page and choose ‘open this frame in new window’.

Then, copy and paste that address into my sitemap generator and you’ll have a sitemap that Google will accept.

I’d get rid of that frame. As it stands now, you have duplicate content (you don’t want that if you ever want the site to rank well). Make the old domain a 301 Permanent Redirect to the new url. Search this forum for permanent redirect details.

    Hope that helps,

    Regards,

    Jim.
