Sitemap Generator Used to Work

Hi, The sitemap generator used to work great for me. I’m not sure what changed, but now it just keeps going and going. Looking at other threads I would guess that I most likely upgraded my java version. I didn’t see any solutions to the problem, just a repeated request for the website address having the problem. My website is jeanshub.com

I can’t say for sure that I upgraded java and then the problem started, but either way, it’s not working for me anymore. I get 5 showing green and other than that it just keep processing, way more pages than my site has.

First off, cool site and excellent job on titles!

The sitemap generator doesn’t randonly start generating urls, and it’s usually the case that the website being crawled made changes and has improply formatted urls.

This is probably what happened in your case. For example, you have a number of urls that are not correct and it’s probably as simple as a typo in an include.

    Example:
    You have a url:
    jeanshub.com/%20workwear1.com/browse.cfm/2,83.html

    pointing to:

    jeanshub.com/%20workwear1.com/browse.cfm/DesignerJeans-AGJeans.aspx

In fact, you have a ton of these errors and I think it stems from one simple mistake that is causing a bunch more invalid urls to be created.

This should be GREAT news to you. The bots will find these errors and it will no doubt impact your ranking in a negative manner. However, because you used my sitemap generator and discovered all these errors, you are now aware and can fix them. Once fixed, you’ll be well on your way again

How do you find and fix them? Find the first url with strange formatting (I’m guessing line 463 under my sitemap generator tab after running it for awhile), then click the + next to the In-l and look at the referring urls.

It’s that simple, yet so many people just never bother checking or run a sitemap builder that never mentions these problems! (oh, that’s right, I have the only one that does this : )

Do you know about my tip jar?

    Have a great day!

Hi, Thanks for the quick response and the positive feedback on the site, really.

I checked the reference you mentioned and this is how the code looks in my page:

    <br />About the Author: WorkWear1.com offers a great selection of <a href="workwear1.com" title="Carhartt Clothing">Carhartt Clothing</a> in addition to a wide variety of <a href=" workwear1.com/browse.cfm/2,83.html">Carhartt Jeans</a> and <a href="workwear1.com">Carhartt Outerwear</a>.

It’s not pointing to jeanshub.com/%20workwear1.com/browse.cfm/DesignerJeans-AGJeans.aspx. I have no idea why the sitemap generator is seeing what it is seeing? I am seriously confused where it is getting that reference from. I searched my site to make sure that I wasn’t missing anything, and it didn’t find anything else. The page that has this code is jeanshub.com/mensjeans-buyrightcarharttjeans.aspx.

I am also concerned with the mention of tons of errors. The sitemap generator was working fine for me, and I don’t recall making tons of changes that would all of a sudden stop it from working. I could be wrong, but from the error you wrote about, and the code I’m showing you, I think it might be a problem with the sitemap generator.

I am going to try to run the sitemap generator again tomorrow and look more closely at what’s it’s coming up with.

If it’s any help, I ran the sitemap generator that GoDaddy provides, and it worked fine.

Also keep in mind, others have wrote with the same problem and confirmed that when they reverted to an older version of java it worked fine and when they went back to a newer version it didn’t. I’m on version 6 update 7 of java, I’m not sure what versions they mentioned, I’m going to go back and look at the other posts.

    Thank you for your help,
    Kim

    Hi Kim,

You do have the errors, there are many, they will have an impact on your site and the sitemap generator is not wrong. You may conclude that the version of Java is having an impact, but in no way is this or has this been the case.

With GoDaddy’s (which I have never used), it must be missing those errors you have.

It’s up to you, trust GoDaddy’s sitemap generator and see what happens or trust AuditMyPC’s and fix all your errors. And think about this, all your competition that is using GoDaddy’s sitemap builder may never know their errors or why their site ranks the way it does

Like I said, I’ve never used (not even heard) of GoDaddy’s sitemap builder until this post, but if it tells you your site is fine, yet mine points out the errors, then I can only conclude that mine is better.

I’d love to help you, you know, run the sitemap generator on your site, find the errors and bring them to light so that you can fix them, but time is short and I have many projects. However, donations do movitavte me to reprioritize certain items, such as in your case

    Have a great day Kim!

    Jim.

    Hi,

Well, I finally just deleted the page that had the code I showed you. I still don’t see how it could have been making up all the urls that the sitemap generator was showing, but it wasn’t an important page so I just dumped it for now. That does seem to have fixed the problem. Three links, on one page, were my problem, everything is workng fine now.

    Thank you!
    Kim

    Hi,

I wanted to make sure that I added the previous post showing that my problem was solved, and am sending this one seperately, because I don’t think you’ll post it.

First, thank you for encouraging me to go ahead and stop the sitemap generator and take a look at the errors.

But, when you said "You do have the errors, there are many, they will have an impact on your site and the sitemap generator is not wrong.", that is not correct. I literally had three links, on one page that were my problem. Excuse me for saying so, but to me, it comes across as though you are just trying to make a buck. And to be honest, I don’t have much confidence that you could solve my problem, seeing as you misdiagnosed it in the first place. By that, I mean that you have repeatdly said that I have tons, or many, errors.

I may be new to creating websites, but I was a Technical Support Specialist for Adobe Systems supporting Photoshop. I know about troubleshooting. It was obvious to me from the first look at the errors that they were all coming from the "workwear" links. I was able to solve my tons of errors by deleting one page. And, I’m still not conviced the problem isn’t on your end. I double checked those links and have no idea where the sitemap generator is coming up with them, they don’t exist anywhere. Either way, you seem to be pressing all the problems with my site when they boiled down to three links.

So, while I really like the sitemap generator, and will continue to use it and recommend it, I hope that if I have a problem in the future, the support might be a little improved. If you want to charge for support, just do it, it’s OK, but don’t try and get donations by scaring people into thinking they have bigger problems than they do.

    Thank you,
    Kim

The sad part is that even now, after you fixed the problems pointed out by the sitemap generator, you have the audacity to claim the sitemap generator may have made them up. Come on Kim, you’re not serious, are you?

I’m glad you like the sitemap generator, I’m happy it fixed your problems, but you seriously need to take a different approach on asking for help. If you made a mistake, that’s ok, just don’t go trying to place the blame on others.
