Problems Adding test to my site

   No problem and by the way, the mod to the css on your site looks great!

   A few items.

   1) connectedinternet.co.uk/download/speedtesting.zip does not exist. You need to place a zip file in that location – the zip file is the large file used for the download portion of the speed test.
   2) Your upload directory is set to yoursite.info and should be connectedinternet.co.uk

   Other than that, your speed test should run fine on the site.

   A tip for your adsense – use something like a 468×60 format and modify the speed test to fit that size, place adsense right on top and you should see a nice return Then again, anything is nice for free, no?

   lol I’d called the folder ‘downloads’ not ‘download’. In your instructions you only mentioned changing the download directory, so I didn’t even look for other lines that need changing.

   It’s still saying loading failed.

   If you add an ending param after every param, you should be fine. For example:

   <param name="uploadTimeSec" value="10" />
   should be
   <param name="uploadTimeSec" value="10" /></param>

   do this for every line that has a param and the speed test should work fine.

   Watch out for that last line on your site:
   <param name="lbDownload.text" value="Download" /></applet> </center>
   should also be:
   <param name="lbDownload.text" value="Download" /></param></applet></center>

   Give that a shot and let me know if it works.

   This is turning out to be a little trickier than I had anticipated when typing to integrate the speed test applet (or any other for that matter) into a wordpress post.

   This is taking me longer than I had anticipated. WordPress is modifying my code when I post, just as you had mentioned.

   I code my way around the problem, but I want to find an easy solution that everyone can use.

    What a pain! I was able to duplicate the exact problem and here is the solution:

    The .jar file needs to be in the root of your wordpress blog.

    Turn off the Rich Text Editor in WordPress by visiting Users, Personal Options and at the bottom of the page in the left hand corner you will see the box.

    The code that I had posted had returns in it and this messed things up. I have corrected that and if you visit auditmypc.com/speedtest.asp and copy the code again, then paste it into your post, you should be fine.

    On your wordpress blog, I noticed that the speedtest applet has a <P> and an </p> in it.

    There can not be any paragraphs (<p> or </p>) inside the applet code. Remove these and the speeed test should bring joy

    hmm weird – damn wordpress added them.

    WordPress does that – you need to go into your wordpress, users, options and turn off ‘Use the visual rich editor when writing’

    Then copy the code from auditmypc and paste it into your blog post.

    After you have made the post, then you can turn on the visual rich editor for future posts.

    I just looked at your page and it still has <p> tags.

    Remove these then let me know.

    weird. That’s definitely the FTP settings. Must be a firewall issue. go to connected internet with the same username and password and use the filemanager there to modify the speed.php template.

    looks like you got it working but it’s a bit slow from the UK – say’s I’m about 5.8Mbps when I’m spot on 10Mbps usually.

    thanks for getting it working though, it will get a lot of traffic (hope it doesn’t kill my server!)

    When you say it was working, was that after you published the page?

    When I created the page with the speed test on your site, it worked as long as it was in draft mode. Then, once I published it, it would stop working. Moved it back to draft mode and worked fine.

    Is this what happened for you or did the speedtest work after you published it and stopped later?

    Also – have you tried disabling the plugins and trying some of the suggestions I mentioned in my email to you?
