I have not used open dns before, but it looks like every request you make is sent to their dns server, they look at the request (site), check it for phishing (fake sites like a fake ebay, etc) and then pass it on.
Thanks AMPC. I think one feature they had which sounded interesting was that they prevent spyware getting into your PC. Guess I’ll just continue cleaning up constantly. Whenever I’m not using the PC, I just run a scan.

What they are talking about is preventing you from visiting a phishing site using their DNS – but firefox already has this as does Microsoft.
