need free web folder friendly to win98se

Greetings

Currently I’m thinking of backing up my work data to online storage so that I can access my data and do my job from (virtually) everywhere in case something happen with my local data

My system is an old laptop with win98se installed on it. I want to setup a direct connection to the online storage and not via browser. Browsers seem to have a bad attitude of transmitting more ads than valuable data and it’s mean more cost to me.

I have tried iDrive but their setup program is designed for NT/XP system. The other sites I came accross require NT/XP system too. I have tried googling with special keyword "for win98se" but the result pages are crowded with NT/XP enthusiasts

Is there any free online storage with setup program designed to be friendly to win9X ?

    Hello,

Sure, Google Docs will solve that problem and allow you to safely store your data. It’s 100% free and if that doesn’t solve the problem, there is also the Gmail Storage Drive that is very popular.

    Hope that helps!

    hi

Thank’s Jim, I’ve tried gmail drive and it works!

Google docs uses browser and I skip that, but Gmail drive successfully creates a new drive in my explorer’s windows (too bad my Total Commander doesn’t seem to recognize this new drive, but that’s ok).

According to the notes from the author, this Gmail drive is at risk of being blocked by Google at anytime because this is a third party’s service (not a Google’s service) and Google has no responsibility to continue receiving access from this program. I don’t think I like this idea, but it doesn’t scares me

Anyway, if Google really blocks this program, can I access my files via browser or mail client?

    regards

I’m pretty sure that if Google blocks the Gmail Drive, then you’ll lose your data.

Ideally, Gmail Drive would have a built in encryption system so that should they view your files, they won’t understand them without a key – and – a background backup of all files at user selected intervals.

I’m sure as the word spreads, Google will begin to notice; then again, Google may just turn around and offer you the ability to store your files for free with a similar application of their own.

    Have a great day!

    Jim
