Memory Low

Jim

I have used your Sitemap generator successfully before and I have read the posts on expanding Java memory but when I enter -Xmx512m into the Java runtime settings for both installed versions, it doesn’t make any difference – the Sitemap Generator still runs out of memory. When i go back to the Java settings, I find the Runtime parameters boxes are empty. Am I doing something wrong? Can you generate a sitemap for my site (www.bbnint.co.uk)?

Try -Xmx256m and see what happens.

You should be able to go to the Java Control Panel, click on the Java Tab, then click View on the Java Applet Runtime Settings and you should see your command there.

No luck! The runtime parameter I enter in both the instances of Java installed on my machine just don’t stick i.e. when I return to the runtime settings the field is blank. I know this isn’t your software but if you have any experience of this then I would be extremely grateful.

    Thanks for your replay.

Yes, I am and I have checked out Java fora and help/support sites. I just don’t understand why the runtime parameter I enter in the Java control panel is not remembered. The next time I open the Java control panel, the field is empty. I have also checked the memory settings in your Sitemap Generator and they don’t change either – whatever I put into the Java control panel. It’s weird.

Is there more than one version? For example, if I open my Java Runtime Settings, I get 1.6.0_10-rc, 1.6.0_07, 1.6.0_05, etc… I have to make sure I enter the runtime settings in the correct location.

    What does yours say?

Do this: In the sitemap generator, click on the System Tab, and tell me what your settings report.

    Regards,

    Jim.

I have had 2 versions installed and I did try entering the runtime setting in both. When that didn’t work I deleted the older version so, I only have 1.6.0_10-rc now.

Whatever I put in the Java Runtime Parameters isn’t there next time I look.

    Hello Blair,

On my old laptop, I have 508M max memory, but I see you have only 64M, so perhaps this is the problem (not enough memory) as you can’t really increase the default. Can you use a different machine and generate a sitemap from that?

I wish I had a better answer, but that is all I can think of.

Let me know what you end up doing.

    Thanks,

    Jim.

    Hello Blair,

Still having this problem? Sorry for the delay!
