Looks Mean A lot

Jim,

Do you have a short list of sites where I can see what my site looks like like on all major browsers? There’s 5 or 6 of them I thought.

Also, do you know of any sites that critique sites?

Roger

There was an open source project that you could submit your site to and it would be placed into a queue, then your would receive an email with sceenshots from different browsers, but I believe it required too many resources and never really took off.

If you look at AWstats for you own site, under the top browsers, you’ll see that only a few. The main four internet browsers are:
MS Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera and Safari.

If you have these four installed on your system and you pages come up fine in each, then you should be good to go. I focus in on IE and Firefox myself.

    Best regards,

    Jim.

    Jim,

Found this site where you can see what a site looks like on Apple’s webbrowser called Safari (free, no sign up).

    Thanks,

    Roger

    Jim,

Do you think it’s true that people in fluorescent lighting (office/schools) buy less often than people at home (usually incadescent or shaded flourescent lighting). My site is barely visible in non shaded flouroescent lighting, but I really don’t want to change it.

    Thanks,

    Roger

That is deep Roger, but I think you have something there! That would make an awesome article that I am sure would get picked up by just about every webmaster on the net.

If you decide to do that, then in the article, include a link to your website and submit it to some of the article directories. Also, make two versions of the article with differing content, one you’ll be submitting, and one for just your site.

I too hate changing colors and formats, but it can make a world of difference. What is worse, is spending hours on a new design, only to find out visitors hate the new look! Doesn’t happen often, but it does happen

    Jim,
Is there a way you can set up something on this forum asking readers the percent of online buying they do at work and or school and the percent of online buying they do at home?

    Thanks Jim,

    Roger

    You mean like a pole?

When you start a new thread, you’ll notice that there is an option to post a pole with the thread. So, just start a new thread, describe the pole and fill in the questions.

    Regards,

    Jim.

Posting a "Pole"? Isn’t that something you find on myspace? :-)

    JIm,

At the Summer Olympics a man was walking through the Olympic village carrying a long pole. A reporter came up to him and asked, "Are you a pole vaulter?" The man replied, "No. I am a German, and how did you know my name was Walter?"

i think it is more to do with security, people are more comfortable buying from home on there own computer as they feel it is safer then on a work computer that they have to leave unattended in a place they don’t have total control over.

Nice Roger – always good to read something like this
