Jim,
Some sites say Keywords are unnecessar, other say no more than 100 characters worth, others 200, other 1000 characters worth. What are the consequences of too many characters of keywords from the robot and spider point of view – do they count the number of characters first then if there’s too many they don’t read the keywords at all?
Thanks,
Roger

Jim,
"But I have a very strong feeling that you don’t want to learn a whole new system, so I am guessing that you are not a happy camper, right[?]" Wrong.
I explained in great detail, and you understood, "If the install seems technical for you, then its operation and the whole conversion process would be just as bad – so don’t force yourself into it." The WordPress people can’t write for anyone but the people who already understand their tech level – WordPress is far from the top of computer programming – read Sciencedaily. The more I think about it the more I see WordPress as rather arrogant. There’s a lot to my website. I’ve been working for many 16 hour days on my site for 9 months, so your assertion that I don’t want to learn is false; it is that WordPress is incapable of writing for anyone other than themselves.

Are we talking about META keywords or keywords on a webpage?
Meta Keywords:
Meta Keywords are now said to not have an impact on ranking of any kind – that was abused many years ago and search engines got wise and x’d it. However, I have found that some ad programs look at the Meta keywords to help them target their ads. I did this test some time ago and had a page that was getting horrible ads (contextual advertising that was way off the mark). I added the meta keywords and the ads were perfect. I never repeated this test and it may not be the case any longer, but I had to mention it.
Keywords on a page:
Forget ever being seen without keywords on your page. What is the right number is still a guess and the search engines will never tell you. Write a page as you would normally write something for humans but with your keyword in mind. If you read the page and it sounds spammy, then you have too many keywords.
Regards,
Jim.
Jim,
So what formula do you use for writing a keyword list?
Here’s what I did.
First in line are several single words that show up very frequently on my page, then very common or important key phrases, then back to single words. My total was about 1000 characters. I’m certain meta tags for keywords are looked at by the big search engines becuase I saw a bump in a couple of days in hits and in the complexity and length of search terms that found my site.
Would you place keywords and phrases in descending order of frequency instead?
Would you drop the length to 500 characters ?
What is and isn’t spammy?
Thanks Jim,
Roger
Jim ,
We really need direction here. Remember what one apparent SEO sleuth wrote,
Mistake: Overloading of Keywords
Trying to optimize a home page for all possible keywords is not a good thing. If you attempt to squeeze in all the keywords on the home page thinking it
You are talking about the Meta tag Roger. All I do is think of 2 to 10 keywords, and just list them in any order that comes to mind. Everyone has their own idea of what works. For me, my methods seems to do well
Regards,
Jim.
Jim,
Others I found also say about 10 keywords. That’s such a drop from the 1000 characters and 500 characters I read elswhere. I’ll try 10 keywords and see what happens. I can always add more later.
I found these great Keyword tools and information.

Jim,
I looked at the code for your bad spider bites site and saw that it has no keywords, yet it ranks at the top on Google. Why?
Thanks,
Roger
Hi Roger,
It ranks on top of Google not because of the keywords, but the way in which the site was designed. Oh, and by the way Roger, that’s a wordpress blog there
I guess I forgot keywords – I never worry too much about them and will usually use something if I remember, but in this case I forgot. Like I said in my previous post, don’t focus too much on keywords, but rather content.
There is magic in them there wordpress blogs
Content is King – Just write about what you are into and the rest just happens automagically. Everything about this site is natural, it has grown by itself and the only thing I needed to contribute was content.
Best regards,
Jim.
Jm,
I tried it several times and it’s too poorly written to understand. Sorting through that mess for months is too high a price to pay. I tried three times. I’ll try a fourth.
Went to wordpress.com, read from the beginning, clicked on "set it up on a web host". The list of web hosts they like are listed, their first choice, BlueHost, is the web host I’ve been using for a year. Nowhere on this advertisement do they tell you how to "set it up on a web host". It’s just an advertisement for web hosting. This "style" of writing is everywhere on this site. At the bottom of this advertising is "Requirements: PHP 4.3 or higher, MySQL 4.0 or higher, Apache or Litespeed recommended. " Is this software I have to buy. If the site is so easy, how come they don’t tell you Required for what? Recommended for what? Why would I buy all this software for a site that brags about how free and easy it is? Everywhere I look on this site it makes no sense. It is written with thousands of assumptions – for webdevelopers.
Thanks but no thanks,
Roger
Indeed, free software can end up being very technical.
If the install seems technical for you, then its operation and the whole conversion process would be just as bad – so don’t force yourself into it.
The point is not using wordpress, but that search engines may not even take your keywords into consideration (and why should that when the have a whole page full of keywords to choose from?).
Just work with what you have and focus on the content and you should be fine.
Regards,
Jim.
JIM,
I called BlueHost and they said to start over using wordpress.org
Roger
Seriously?
I guess I am missing the conversation you had with them
, I am not asserting anything, simply repeating what you already stated,
So, let’s move on shall we and forget about wordpress.
Regards,
Jim.
Jim,
Went to Google and typed in "WordPress AND sucks" and it brought up one million 470 thousand pages. The first saying the same thing I figured out without wasting months of time. thebeautifullull.com/index.php?p=176
I know you like WordPress a lot, but you have the expertise to tolerate it. If your not computer systems educated, WordPress is a time pit.
In a lighter note, I worked on keywords for my site and realized to even begin to be a player with Keywords, you have to not look for words that are important in describing your site, you have to look for words that other people type in often that you use, or can use and will use frequently on your page. I did take your advice and kept the number of keywords down, (10-14) and I did have an uptick in hits. It’s easy to do when you realize you don’t have nearly as many popular words on your site as you probaly thought you did. The two main sites for doing this, unless you know of better sites, are seochat.com/seo-tools/keyword-density
and 123promotion.co.uk/ppc/index.php
Thanks for your patience Jim,
Roger

Can some one tell me how many keywords i can have on my homepage? I have done a lot of research but still not 100% sure! My site is london4jobs.co.uk
Stick with three keywords on the main page.
Also, you should not have the same title on each page, such as the financial services and general insurance links – each should have a unique title.
Your site looks great by the way! I’m not sure I would repeat words in your title, instead, use this for your other keyword.
Regards,
Jim.
Jim,
I think, at this time, the best way to decide on how many keywords to use is to list the words and phrases that appear on your site 2% of the time or more, and the exception is words or phrases that are quite unique online.
Word density (a.k.a. keyword density) seochat.com/seo-tools/keyword-density/
Roger
The way I do it Roger and research the keywords and then write the article, page, etc with that keyword combination in mind.
If for example, Dark Coffee is a hot keyword and I am writing about Coffee vs. Mountain Dew and associated health benefits, I would the keyword combination of Dark Coffee vs. Mountain Dew a few times in my review rather than just Coffee.
For those of you wondering if there is any benefit to drinking Mountain Dew, I know of none and can personally attest to addiction problems
I’d also make the title of the page Dark Coffee vs Mountain Dew.
So, keyword research, then the article. If you already have the article, as in your case, then keyword research and modify your article, but, log files should be reviewed before making changes to avoid modifying a successful page.
Hope that helps.
Regards,
Jim.
if you have already created a blog, but if you start a new one, you should choose a domain name which will contain the keywords you are targeting. For example, if you want to rank highly on the search engines for
