Page Not Found For Index page

Jim,
I'm getting this strange error from Google Webmaster

File Not Found http://www.mysite.com/index.html

so in my htaccess file I put

Redirect 301 /index.html http://www.mysite.com/

but it shut my site down. Any ideas?

Hi Roger,

You don't want to do that. Check to see if the file exists on your site by typing in the domain name/index.html

If it doesn't come up, then that's the problem.

Jim,
Even if you have the Google xml site map plugin up and running, the problem went away when I submitted the sitemap.xml "by hand" to google - sign into Google's webmaster, get to "sitemaps" link on the left, and enter "sitemap.xml" i the field.

I ended up deactivating the plug in again becuase it was submitting pages I was blocking with a robots.txt file. That plug in is set up for posts as the center of attention when I have a Pages with posting at the bottom. I'll probably remove the plug in, unles you have a reason not to.
