Default Not doing quite as well as I thought! Any help?

Hi All.

I have been teaching myself everything i can about running a website over the last year. I have no plans of doing this professionally, but I wouldn't mind having my site pay for itself (and some of our adventures)

That being said, I though I was happy with the numbers I was finally starting to get, when I came across this site and realize I am SOOO wrong.

I was hoping someone could take a quick peak at my site, and point me in the direction I should be going: journeysontario.ca

I have a PR of 2, and am averaging about 75 hits a day.

I have been trying to follow google's suggestions... easy to navigate site, new relevant content, naming all pictures, and having an alt description etc.

Should I be trying to insert more key words in the site, or focusing on link exchanges?

With the content that I have, should be be getting more visitors? (from what people have seen on other sites)

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Rob

Default Ontario Camping - Quick Site Review

Hello Rob and welcome to the forum!

Great site and it has a lot of potential! I'll get right to it as my system (physical that is) is shutting down fast - I picked the following page to talk about:
journeysontario.ca/Camping.html

First, you need a description meta tag - something like this would do just fine:
<meta name="description" content="We cover some of the great camping locations in Ontario.">

Your page title is about 'Great Camping Locations', so there should be at least one occurrence of that term in your text.

Your alt text for your pictures is blank (only looked at one, but it was blank) and should have some text describing your image. Google images can do wonders for your site

Use my sitemap generator, after making the changes above, and create a google sitemap, then let google know about it or add it to your robots.txt - see: http://www.auditmypc.com/free-sitemap-generator.asp

Make five posts on this forum and then add your website to your forum signature - it will count as a good link

These suggestions alone should help your ranking

Best regards,

Jim.
