Google Sitemap seems incomplete

Hello,

I have used the Web-Master_Tool to crawl my site. When I click on the Sitemap tab I get a nice detailed list of my files. I then created a ‘Google Sitemap’ using the Export tab. When I view this xml document in a text editor, it appears as the following. It is not detailed and only contains a couple of the columns. I checked the column filter and I have all columns checked.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<urlset xmlns="http://www.google.com/schemas/sitemap/0.84"
xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.google.com/schemas/sitemap/0.84
http://www.google.com/schemas/sitemap/0.84/sitemap.xsd">
<url>
<loc>http://www.engagetoday.com</loc>
</url>
<url>
<loc>http://www.engagetoday.com/css/engage_print.css</loc>
<lastmod>2006-05-23T23:36:24-07:00</lastmod>
</url>
<url>
<loc>http://www.engagetoday.com/css/engage_screen.css</loc>
<lastmod>2006-09-26T00:20:56-07:00</lastmod>
</url>
<url>
<loc>http://www.engagetoday.com/index.php</loc>
</url>
<url>
<loc>http://www.engagetoday.com/about_carolyn.php</loc>
</url>
etc…..

I would have expected a much bigger file which included all the files shown on the sitemap tab and more details that were provided in the columns.

What gives, do I have a setting set wrong?

Also on the settings tab, for User agent would I select Firefox or AuditMyPC Webmaster Tool? I accessed the Tool using Firefox browser.

thanks,

Mash

    The column filer does not apply to the Google Sitemap generator. Google Sitemaps will not take all the information we have and the tool is smart enough to know this by exporting only the information Google needs.

    The column and Row filter are really for viewing purposes. For example, if you wanted to check your site for bad links, you would check only these filters:
    Nr., HTTP code, Location, Error, Title, Status, Incoming links, Ourgoing links.

    This would produce all the information you need to find and fix any bad links.

    The Google sitemap you have is correct.

    Jim.

    I noticed that the google sitemap only includes webpages in the nodes. What about include files like PDF’s. Do you not want to include these in the sitemap?

    Just Curious… I have used another ‘google’ sitemap generator before and it included .pdf files.

    thanks for any info.
