Difference between Java and Flash test

Hi,

Can anybody explain why I would experience HUGE differences between the java and flash tests -

Java – ~9000k down / ~500k up
Flash – ~400k down / ~500k up

I am running both from Safari 1.3.2 (v312.6) on a Mac Powerbook 1.5Ghz G4 (OS X 10.3.9), Flash 9,0,47,0 and Java 1.4.2_11.

Wow! I know there is a difference, but that is an extreme result for the speed test. What is your configuration? Where are you connecting from?

I’m connecting from New York City, NY through a 10Mb/s Earthlink Cable connection with a Motorola sb5101 cable modem routed through an Apple AirPort Express and using the hardware/software specs mentioned previously. Also got same results from

    Mac Mini
    1.66Ghz Intel Core Duo
    512mb
    OS X 10.4.11
    Safari 3.0.4
    Java 1.4.2 Plugin
    Flash 9.0r47

    Dell Latitude D410
    Intel Centrino
    Win XP
    IE 6

So issue doesn’t seem to be PC specific, the only commonality is that they are connecting through the same wifi router and cable modem.
Is there anything else I can provide you with? I will remove my AirPort from the loop and connect my pc direct to the modem at some point and let you know the results.

Can you do me a favor and see if you are getting the same results from this speed test:
    ht tp: //dslbroadband.biz/

There is a java and flash test located there. This server has a TON of bandwidth and it will help me narrow the problem down. If the speed test results are different, then something (router, hops, etc) are slowing skewing the results from my server to yours. If not, then I need to look at code.

    Thanks for the time BigChris!
