Could not open Webmaster Tool

When I clicked on the link to the Webmaster Tool to create a sitemap, I got a Javascript message and answered OK, but nothing happened.

What’s going on?

I’m getting the same problem. I get a large grayed area and Error on page. Looking at the Java Console, there are a series of errors like these:

    Error loading class: jmaster.webtool.app.WebToolApplet
    ..
    IOException Loading Archive: file:/F:/TEMP/webtool_z.jar
    java.io.FileNotFoundException: F:TEMPwebtool_z.jar

    com.ms.security.SecurityExceptionEx[Host]: java.io.IOException: bad path: F:TEMPjmasterwebtoolappWebToolApplet.class
    …etc.

I have Java enabled. What’s the deal? Is it some other security setting in IE? (IE6, Win2K)

    Hi Jerry,

I’m spent for the day and will hit the forum in detail tomorrow AM. A few questions until then:

Are you using the latest version of Sun? Can you try it in Firefox?

I’d like to duplicate your issue so that I can include them in my problem and solution page.

    Best regards,

    Jim.

    Jim,

Not using Sun. Windows on Win2K with IE6 and Firefox. Tried it in Firefox, as you suggested, and checked that Java was enabled. It gets further. I see the loading progress bar, then at the bottom I see "Applet webToolApplet started" but nothing but a gray area within the window. Don’t see any way to trigger a wakeup. Firefox 2.0.0.1.

    Hi Jerry,

You’ll need Sun’s Java Runtime which is free and located here:
    java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Once this is installed, it will work fine with IE or Firefox.

Let me know if you have other issues.

    Regards,

    Jim.

Ah, the key to the kingdom! That did the trick.

I read the intial four pages or whatever on your site but don’t remember seeing instructions to download and install Java first. Guess I assumed it would be installed already or install with your generator.

In any event, thanks. Looking forward to trying this out.

    Jerry

    Hello Jerry,

You are correct in that I don’t (didn’t) have that information posted on the pages.

I have included that information on the XML Sitemap and Webmaster tools page, so thank you!

Glad to hear that the sitemap generator is working for you and feel free to ask any questions.

    Best regards,

    Jim.
