I have used 1and1 webhosting and they are very bad. I have had my sites go down and not come up for days. I was using the 4.99 plan and its not worth it and moved all my sites to hostgator!

True, 1and1.com is not lightning fast when it comes to their lowest end package. Actually, if you consider what you receive for $5, it’s a great deal and for $9, you can have mysql and more.
If you have a site that is getting good traffic, I would not host it on 1and1′s low end package.
I have had their dedicated server and the server was rock solid – I may have had a couple of small issues, but nothing worth mentioning and the speed was awesome!
I left 1and1′s dedicated server because a visitor that works at a high end hosting company offered a free server – The idea of saving thousands per year convinced me
As for support, it is acceptable if you have time (hour or so) but if you are looking for instant support, then you had better look elsewhere.
I have a few 1and1 accounts at the low end $9 per month which I use for starting blogs. 1and1 states that you can only have 3, but what they don’t advertise is that you can only have three using their automated tool. If you download wordpress yourself and ftp it to your server, you can have as many as you can handle
Also, they give you three domain names free of charge then they are something like $7 per year after the first year.
Here is my 1and1 affiliate link which you can use to get the same server I use ($9 per month) for $4 per month for 3 months, then $9 per month after that (around $100 per year). I am not talking positive about 1and1 because I might get a $2 commission, but because I use them and it works.

Have to give this plug – Most of my high traffic sites sit on Pair and they do an awesome job. Easy to use, excellent support, unique IP addresses and fantastic speed. I have searched long and hard and when it comes to a linux server, this place came out on top. If I didn’t host my on sites with this hosting company, then I wouldn’t recommend them!
